Gem is a gorgeous stallion with thick mane and tail that still has the
flaxen color (as of Jan 2009). He has a medium build with a beautiful
head that comes from his dam, Cana Del Plata. He is strong in gait and
is ridden without shoes and in Gaits of Gold tack. He can go slow or
fast in gait. The faster he goes, the more he picks up in the front
end.
We have been breeding Gem to our mares for the past 5 years and have been
very pleased with his foal crop. He has a produced a couple of
stallions and there are a couple of more stallion prospects still growing!
Gem has a tendency to throw a pretty head and put a good shoulder onto his
foals. He also will put a refinement onto a foal that is out of a
stocky built mare. His foals have good temperaments and many have been
exceptionally gentle. He has been averaging about 50% fillies and 50%
colts.
Gem has been color tested at the University of California - Davis and has
been confirmed to not carry a red gene or a bay gene. This means he
can never produce a sorrel and can only produce a bay if the mare
contributes her bay gene to the foal. The majority of his foals have
been chocolate or black.
